Wyoming Christmas Store
NOV 13 - UPDATE TO THE PLAN:
There was a big change in the Christmas Store plans this year. Due to COVID they will be helping families with a drive-thru event and the amount each family is given will be personalized to that family. As a congregation we are still committed to helping our community through this event. Instead of purchasing gifts, we are now going to collect only monetary donations to help them reach out to these families. There is a Christmas gift box available in the Gathering Space. Checks should be made out to Christ Lutheran Church (add ‘Christmas Store’ in the memo line). On weekdays, donations can be dropped off during office hours or mailed. Please make any donations by Sunday, November 22. Contact Carol Peters at 616-634-8067 with any questions.
Wyoming Christmas Store
Christmas is coming soon, and our church participates with other area churches and organizations to support the Wyoming Christmas Store. The date for this year’s store is Saturday, December 5. The concept of this special Christmas Store is to offer low-income families a way to obtain gifts for their children in an affordable manner. Rather than shower families with charitable gifts from strangers, parents involved with Christmas Store can buy quality gifts at one fourth of the retail value (a $20 item will cost $5). This lets moms and dads experience the dignity of providing for their own families! Some families will be able to shop for free because they have put in a lot of volunteer hours throughout the year.
Parents have filled out an application and have been screened to meet eligibility requirements. They are either clients of the Family Network of Wyoming Food Pantry, UCOM Food Pantry clients who do volunteer work, or families who are struggling with finances who attend one of the participating churches. A parent can spend up to $10.00 per child (a $40 value), with a maximum of 3 gifts per child.
All proceeds from the store will go back into the store; such as for supplies, shortages of gifts, free Bibles or other giveaway items.
How can you help?
Please look for the Christmas tree outside near the main entrance on Sunday, November 8, and select a tag which states the gender and age of children who are registered at the store. After you purchase a gift please return the unwrapped gift to church by Sunday, November 29. Tags can be picked up and gifts can be dropped off during office hours (Monday-Friday, 9 a.m.—1 p.m.).
If you have any questions, please contact Carol Peters. Thank you for your participation!
