The sweet students at Gladiola School in Wyoming are so very appreciative of the warm items of clothing that Christ Lutheran continues to provide for them.. The need continues for personal water bottles, and elastic waist pants for girls and boys sizes 4-7. The children have been reading and receiving books to practice at home so the need is still there for K-2nd grade level books.
There are teachers who would desire to have adult volunteers come to their classrooms but a security check has to be made before they can allow us to come into the building. I am so tickled to know that Sue Schmidt has been volunteering in a young fives classroom there for several weeks now! Feel free to call Gladiola School to ask how the security check can be filled out.
The monthly food truck has been going well. We go to different schools every month to box up food that comes on a truck. It is donated food for us to hand out to those in the Wyoming area that are trying to make ends meet. The next opportunity for anyone to help fill boxes and load them in trunks or back seats is Monday, February 27 at West Elementary (off 36th St between Byron Center Rd and Burlingame). It usually happens from about 4-6 pm. As far as I know, the March truck will stop at Parkview elementary on Lee Street near Lamar Park on March 27. If you want to help, just show up or give me a call for directions or further information, 616-228-3381. I have met some very nice people from the three schools and others who support needy families in this way.
I thank all from Christ Lutheran who have been so generous in giving to the "little people" at Gladiola School. -- Nan Larson
