As Ephesians 2:8-10 reminds us, we are what God has made us—people whom God has created by grace to live in union with Jesus Christ and has prepared to live faithful, fruitful lives by the power of the Holy Spirit. In Jesus Christ, God has reconciled us to God and to each other. As we gather around word and sacraments, this life in Christ is what defines, shapes and guides us as a community of faith, the church. By God’s grace we can and do live confidently and generously in this community of faith and in service of others. ELCA vital congregations work to strengthen their relationship with God, nurture relationships with each other and create a strong presence with their community.

Monetary

As members of the Church, we are called to give from our financial blessings as well. Through the faithful giving of CLC members, we are able to support our ministries and outreach programs, provide compensation to staff, and assist in the needs of our community.

Simply Giving® Program

The Simply Giving® Program offers church members a convenient, safe, and simple way to make regular church offerings without the need to write checks, carry cash or prepare envelopes.

Time & Talents

God's Work. Our Hands

As Christians we are one church, freed in Christ to serve and love our neighbor. As part of giving we are called to minister to the people around us. At Christ Lutheran Church we offer many different opportunities to use our time and talents in this mission.

Committees

There are multiple committees at Christ Lutheran Church that help to make decisions, plan events, and keep things running for all our ministries.

If you don't know who to contact or how to get ahold of the committee leaders, please contact the church office and we can direct you in the right direction. You can reach the office by email at office@clcwyoming.org or phone 616-532-2774.

  • Fellowship Committee

Our relationship with God through Jesus is the basis of our salvation. It is in relationship with others, individually and in community, that we experience the love of God. The Fellowship Committee works to facilitate the building of relationships within the congregation.

  • Finance Committee

The Finance Committee offers guidance to the church council on maintaining sound financial practices in order to fulfill the mission of the congregation.

  • Mission Support Committee

Stewardship is the gift of our time, talents, and treasures in support of Christ’s ministry. The Mission Support Committee is charged with educating the congregation about stewardship, as well as encouraging members to be good stewards with their time, money, and talents.

  • Property Committee

The Property Committee is responsible for the evaluation, management, and maintenance of the CLC building and its utilization so that the work of the various ministries within Christ Lutheran Church can be effectively carried out.

  • Well Being & Social Concerns Committee

This committee is about doing as Christ did—serving others. The work of the Well Being & Social Committee is carried out through various autonomous subcommittees that reach out to the community. The subcommittees/activities include Blood Drive, Cookies for Veterans, Christmas Store, GRACE Hunger Walk, School Bags, Personal Care Pantry, County Wide Food Drive, Thanksgiving Baskets, Christmas Baskets, and Degage.

  • Youth & Family Committee

The Dream Team is made up of volunteers and is led by the Youth Director. This committee is charged with visioning and planning for the overall CLC youth effort. Members of this committee take part in dreaming up new ideas, as well as supporting the Youth Director and facilitating the nuts and bolts of the youth program.

Church Ministries

At Christ Lutheran Church, we host a variety of programs, missions, and initiatives to facilitate fellowship and benefit our families, our church, and our community. We encourage all members to share their time and talents in any of our ministry areas and are always looking for new volunteers.

If you don't know who to contact or how to get ahold of the committee leaders, please contact the church office and we can direct you in the right direction. You can reach the office by email at office@clcwyoming.org or phone 616-532-2774.

  • Community Outreach & Evangelism Committee

As a church, we are called to reach out to and support the needs of our community. Through a variety of programs and initiatives, we provide resources for those in need and work to be the hands and feet of Christ in our area. Some examples of this work include:

    • Gladiola School
    • Back to School Bags - Each fall as we prepare for the start of a new school year, CLC creates bags for local students.

    • Holiday Food Baskets - During the Thanksgiving and Christmas holiday season, CLC members donate food items for baskets and we distribute to local families in need. For more information, contact Nancy Heidrich or Lisa Harris.
  • Personal Care Pantry

Once a month, Christ Lutheran Church holds a Personal Care Pantry to support 30 families in our community who are less fortunate. We provide them with basic needs, such as toilet paper, soap, paper towels, shampoo, and other toiletries and essentials that are not available through government programs.

We set up these products like a shopping experience to allow families to select their products. We also provide a meal that allows these families to sit down and eat together.

We at Christ Lutheran believe that through this one ministry of many, we strengthen the Wyoming community through building connections and fostering health and wellness by making available basic hygienic products, while promoting respect and self-value for the families.

  • Degage Inner City Ministry

One night each month, we take a group of CLC volunteers to work at Degage, a local program assisting the needy in Grand Rapids.

For more information or to find out how to volunteer, please contact Dave Harris.

  • Blood Drive

Once a quarter, the Red Cross hosts a blood drive at CLC.

For more information or to volunteer, contact Dave Park.

  • Habitat for Humanity

CLC members have the opportunity to volunteer for our local chapter of Habitat for Humanity, as well as participate in a fundraising barbecue.

For more information, contact Ray Punches

  • Samaritas

Samaritas spans the state’s Lower Peninsula with more than 60 program sites in over 40 cities, through nearly 2000 dedicated staff and volunteers. Those programs include: Adoption, Foster Care, Senior and Affordable Living. Our New Americans program offers refugee resettlement, job training and school readiness. Disability services are offered through group homes and in-home supports. Some other support services we offer include: Home Health, community services, prison to community reintegration for women, and we have the largest family homeless shelter program in the state.

  • Thrivent

Thrivent Financial Services is a "mutual benefit society” that sells life insurance and financial products to Lutherans. They share some of the proceeds with congregations, helping to fund various projects and ministries.

For more information, contact Julie Fischer or George Wohleter.

  • South Sudanese

Christ Lutheran Church serves as a host congregation for South Sudanese Christ Lutheran Church, a new congregation under development of the North/West Lower Michigan Synod of the ELCA.
