A Lenten Message from Pastor Rob
During this Lenten season, ALL are invited to participate in Lent in a meaningful way. Meaningfulness is very unique to each of you as individuals.
It may involve church attendance, and participation in seasonal gatherings. We will be offering a Mardi Gras party with service Tuesday Feb. 21 here at church. A celebration gathering and meal, followed by a short and meaningful service which ends with a fire outside!
We will be worshiping every Wednesday during Lent starting Ash Wednesday, Feb 22. Is your goal to come every Sunday? Holy Week will offer multiple worship services. Connect your goal to a larger hope for faith, growth. Join us at worship.
> See the calendar of events below for all the upcoming Lenten opportunities at Christ Lutheran.
You may choose a financial sacrifice to offer to the church. Perhaps you have not yet decided what is an appropriate weekly tithe to the church and you wish to practice that? Maybe you increase your gift for Lent, or support special funds that exist? If it is financial, connect it to faith by giving in love, gratitude and sacrifice for the church. Our financial health would be altered for the good if people could give weekly, consistently and with a plan. Not excessively, just a plan and a goal for consistency if possible.
You may wish to try out some volunteering or participation with a small group ministry here at church, or in your community. Perhaps you just want to pray specifically for the church, leaders, pastor and staff intervening for God's will to be followed. How often can you connect it to prayer, God, and faith. The sacrifice should trigger a larger faith practice.
It may mean adding something such as a daily prayer, time of quiet, bible reading, creating art, visiting a friend or family. Perhaps you wish to add a skill or attitude that may better serve your life of faith, understanding and love. Add healing and mercy; Is now the time to let go of resentment and heal a relationship? How will you intentionally accomplish it?
Whatever you choose, Lent is a time of INTENTIONAL action, that is meant to PROMOTE growth and change by connecting our life and faith together.
I welcome your conversation about Lenten sacrifice and growth. I would love to discuss it, and walk with you by meeting and discussing your choice. And maybe that may be your goal, to make time to sit and visit with Pastor Rob.
You can download a guide for selecting and writing your goal. When we record our Lenten goals, they become more real, tangible and possible to achieve. This is accomplished by first considering, do I want to do this? Then entering into conversation with God about what should I do, and how can I do this? Take it to thought, prayer and even discussion with me.
It is not the success or failure that matters, it is the desire to speak with God and TRY that is the real intention. Everything else beyond that is just growth and grace.
Happy Lent 2023!
